So you shot your film, and now it needs to be put together.
Anyone can edit. There are tons of user-friendly programs out there, and if you have the time, money, and patience, you can edit your own project.
But, a true editor is one who has an eye for the edit. Pacing, tone, the entire flow from start to finish, is a creative tool honed over time.
